Jagland on the list of candidates for the post of Secretary General

13/05/2009 :: When they met i Madrid 12 of May, the Foreign Ministers from the Council of Europe member states adopted a resolution on the appointment of Secretary General of the Council of Europe. Disappointment at non-election of the Secretary General, but the dialogue continues

24/06/2009 :: Session of the Parliamentary Assembly, Strasbourg, 22-26 June 2009 - Samuel Zbogar, Chairman of the Committee of Ministers and Slovenian Foreign Minister, expressed "his deep disappointment and concern at the decision to withdraw the Secretary General's election from the agenda". He expressed the wish that this election would take place at the earliest possible moment while underlining that the Committee of Ministers' aim is to continue constructive dialogue with the Assembly.

That is why Norway has nominated our former Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and current President of the Norwegian Parliament, Mr Thorbjørn Jagland, as a candidate for the position of Secretary General.
