30/11/2007 :: - This Summit will go into history as the Summit of European Unity, said Secretary General Terry Davis at the closing session of the Warsaw Summit. He declared that the Council of Europe has a clear mandate to carry out its mission and that the Plan of Action adopted at the Summit confirms the Council of Europe’s leading role in developing democracy, defending human rights and advancing the rule of law in Europe, and in promoting our values in a broader sense – the values of democratic culture, tolerance, justice and social cohesion. + More

Warsaw Summit19/11/2007 :: Prime Minister Bondevik underlined the importance of the Council of Europe in his speech on the first day of the Warsaw Summit (16 - 17 May). He described the Council of Europe as an important brick in the European institutional architecture, adding that there is a lot to gain by working more closely with the EU and the OSCE and that all three organisations must co-operate and co-ordinate their activities. + More

Norway signed treaty against trafficking

19/11/2007 :: Three major Council of Europe conventions concerning the fight against terrorism and trafficking in human beings were opened for signature by member states at the Warsaw Summit. The conventions were signed by a number of states. Prime Minister Bondevik signed on behalf of Norway the convention on action against trafficking. + More

Closer co-operation between Council of Europe, OSCE and EU

19/11/2007 :: - The Warsaw Summit's decision to have a closer co-operation between the Council of Europe, the OSCE and the EU is an important signal for the future of European institutional architecture, says the Norwegian member of the Committee of Ministers in Strasbourg. It is the Committee of Ministers that will lead the follow-up of the Warsaw Summit decisions, including the implementation of the Action Plan. In this interview, Mr. Torbjørn Frøysnes, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Norway to the Council of Europe, sums up his principal conclusions from the Third Summit and thoughts on the follow-up work that will be the task of the Committee of Ministers in the months to come. + More
