The Warsaw Summit 2005

"The Summit of European Unity"

- This Summit will go into history as the Summit of European Unity, said Secretary General Terry Davis at the closing session of the Warsaw Summit. He declared that the Council of Europe has a clear mandate to carry out its mission and that the Plan of Action adopted at the Summit confirms the Council of Europe’s leading role in developing democracy, defending human rights and advancing the rule of law in Europe, and in promoting our values in a broader sense – the values of democratic culture, tolerance, justice and social cohesion.
