19/11/2007 // The Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jan Petersen, Chairman of the Committee of Ministers, will discuss the Beslan tragedy and its aftermath with Peter Schieder, President of the Parliamentary Assembly, and Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, when they meet in Oslo this week in connection with the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Assembly on Tuesday 7 September.

In a joint statement released on Saturday 4 September, the three spoke of "the horror felt within the Council of Europe following the tragedy in Beslan”.

“This barbaric act – which has shocked us all the more as it targeted what is most precious to us, our children – has ended in a dreadful blood bath. The Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly is to meet on 7 September in Oslo at the invitation of the Norwegian Parliament. The meeting will be opened at 11am by the President of the Assembly, Peter Schieder, and the Speaker of the Storting (Norwegian Parliament), Jørgen Kosmo.
