European Audiovisual Observatory: Norwegian Presidency in 2006

19/03/2009 // In 2006 Norway held the presidency of the European Audiovisual Observatory (EAO). The Observatory’s working areas include film, television, video/dvd and new media in Europe. The Observatory gathers, manages and disseminates information about market and statistics, law, production and its financing within the mentioned media areas. The Norwegian priority was to expand the Observatory’s area of expertise.

Norway was represented by Mr. Nils Klevjer Aas from the Norwegian Film Fund and Mr. Lars Winsvold (substitute representative) from the Norwegian Media Authority.

The Observatory was set up in December 1992 and has since then been unique in its field of gathering and disseminating information on the audiovisual industry in Europe. The organisation’s task is to create transparency in the European audiovisual sector and to provide information services for audiovisual experts. The European Audiovisual Observatory is a public service organisation established under the Council of Europe as an enlarged partial agreement. It has 37 members including the European Community, represented by the European Commission. In addition, the Observatory works with a network of more than 500 correspondents, and with a variety of partner and professional organisations.
