Ris på baken - vold og oppdragelse

10/12/2007 :: Ikke-voldelig oppdragelse stod på agendaen da 21 unge europeere i alderen 13-18 år med foresatte møttes til diskusjon i Europarådets ungdomssenter. De unge, fra 19 europeiske land, debatterte spørsmål som "Hva er god/dårlig oppdragelse, og hvorfor?", "Hvis du skulle sende foreldre på kurs, hva kunne du tenke deg skulle stå på læreplanen for hvordan barn skal behandles?", og "Bør det være ulovlig for voksne å slå barna sine?". Norske Mona Sandbæk var koordinator for konferansen som fant sted 6.-7. oktober 2005 i Strasbourg, Frankrike. Petter Hoxmark, norsk deltager, rapporterer fra konferansen.

Anti-Torture Committee visited Norway

10/12/2007 :: The Council of Europe’s Anti-Torture Committee (CPT) carried out a periodic visit to Norway from 3-10 October 2005. The delegation followed up a number of issues examined during previous visits, including, in particular, the fundamental safeguards against ill-treatment offered to persons deprived of their liberty by the police, the restrictions imposed upon remand prisoners and the situation in psychiatric hospitals. Further, the delegation examined the treatment of prisoners detained in units with very high security. + More

Hammarberg elected new Human Rights Commissioner

10/12/2007 :: Thomas Hammarberg from Sweden was 5 October 2005 elected new Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights to succeed the serving Spanish HR-Commissioner Alvaro Gil-Robles. Mr. Hammarberg is elected for a non-renewable term of office for six years, and takes over the position as Commissioner for Human Rights on 1 April 2006. + More

Faro 2005: "Intercultural dialogue - the way ahead"

23/11/2007 :: The ministerial conference on intercultural dialogue which took place in Faro on the 27th and 28th of October was set up to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Cultural Convention. During the conference a declaration to promote intercultural dialogue between Europe and her neighbouring regions was adopted. + More
