Recommendation on measures to combat discrimination of LGBT persons

Last updated: 06/04/2010 // The Committee of Ministers adopted on 31 March 2010 a recommendation to the member states on measures to combat discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

The recommendation is the first legal instrument in the world dealing particularly with discrimination of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons. The recommendation draws on the European Convention on Human Rights as well as other international legal instruments and standards.

"The recommendation is an expression of the Council of Europe's commitment to the equality for all and respect for the dignity of all", Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland declared after the Committee of Ministers’ adoption of the recommendation.
