Human Rights Trust Fund created in cooperation between Norway and the Council of Europe

27/03/2008 :: Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, and Jonas Gahr Støre, the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed on March 14, 2008, in Oslo, an agreement between Norway, the Council of Europe and the Council of Europe Development Bank for the creation of a Human Rights Trust Fund. The main purpose of the Fund is to support national efforts of Member States in implementing the European Convention on Human Rights. Norway will make an initial contribution of one million euros to the fund – which is open for other states to participate. + More

Alleged secret detention centres in Council of Europe member states

15/05/2006 :: The allegations refers to suspicious movements by aircraft supposedly linked to the CIA, and believed to have been used to transport prisoners in "the war against terrorism". The Secretary General to the Council of Europe, Terry Davis, has reacted by using his legal powers under art. 52 of the European Convention on Human Rights to request information from all the 46 member states. + More
